Associate Specialist, Marketing & Membership

The Associate Specialist, Marketing & Membership is responsible for routine daily functions of the Marketing and Membership Department. This includes coordination and scheduling of email blasts, logistical and administrative support for APHL exhibits, maintenance and updating of all email lists, administration of advertising in APHL publications, assisting in brand consistency for APHL products and services, production of marketing collateral and other specific projects. This position executes tactical strategies on marketing plans developed by Director of Membership & Marketing and other APHL staff members; and works closely with Specialist, Marketing, in determining day-to-day work plan and assisting in marketing projects. Additionally, this position supports the membership department’s routine administrative work as needed. This position reports to the Director, Membership and Marketing.

Manager HIV, Hepatitis, STD and TB Programs

The APHL Manager of HIV, Hepatitis, STD and TB Programs is responsible for the management of all HIV, Hepatitis, STD and TB work at the Association in coordination with other Infectious Disease activities undertaken by the department. The staff member works closely with various Centers and Offices within CDC, most notably NCHHSTP, and with public health professionals at various partner organizations that have complementary activities in testing, policy, and training around HIV, Hepatitis, TB, and STDs. The Manager works on behalf of and in collaboration with APHL members, staff and partner organizations, building relationships that enhance the connections between APHL member laboratories and their public health partners. The Manager provides support to the Association’s Infectious Diseases Committee and independently staffs several related subcommittees. The Manager of HIV, Hepatitis, STD and TB Programs supervises the Infectious Disease Specialist for TB Programs. The Manager reports to the Director of Infectious Disease Programs under the overall leadership of the Senior Director of Public Health Programs. The staff person will be located in the APHL Silver Spring office.

Senior Director of Public Health Programs

The Senior Director of Public Health Programs, reports to the Executive Director, and is responsible for the overall strategic leadership management, and expansion of APHL’s Public Health Programs including Environmental Health, , Infectious Diseases, Food Safety, Public Health Preparedness, and Newborn Screening and Genetics. This individual represents APHL to members, partners and key constituents in broad initiatives and forums, and oversees the development and implementation of proposals and plans for cooperative agreements, grants, and/or other funding sources consistent with the Association’s strategic plan and priorities. Working as part of the executive management team and in concert with the strategic plan, the Senior Director of Public Health Programs helps set the direction and develops strategies for the accomplishment of goals and organizational priorities as related to the above programs.

Senior Specialist, Global Health Zimbabwe

The Senior Specialist, Global Health manages and implements APHL activities related to support for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in support of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief ( The incumbent of this position coordinates with CDC In-country Laboratory Leads and the Director, Global Health Program to identify technical assistance needs for country project activities. The Senior Specialist enlists qualified APHL member and staff experts, organizes project teams, monitors overall project performance and assesses project outcomes. The incumbent duties include writing scopes of work and requests for proposals, monitoring consultant and vendor contracts and coordinating logistical arrangements for international shipments of material provided to PEPFAR supported countries. Incumbent duties also include reviewing and editing technical assistance reports, writing summary reports for newsletters and other publications, organizing advisory committee meetings and participating in planning for projects. This position will be responsible for maintaining communication with project sites, CDC and other partners by telephone, e-mail and direct meetings and responding to requests from APHL members for participation in project activities.

The APHL web intern provides support for the association’s rapidly expanding website.
