National HIV Testing Day June 27th
On this day focused on HIV testing and the need for individuals to know their HIV Infection Status, APHL would like to recognize our members, colleagues and partners who are working hard to fight the spread of this disease. Individuals become aware of their status through the HIV testing efforts that take place within the public health laboratory system.
APHL members in state and local public health laboratories have made significant contributions to the detection and identification of the HIV cases throughout the United States. Their efforts include
providing high-quality HIV screening and confirmatory testing services;
supporting HIV testing practices research through data gathering and dissemination;
attending, presenting at and participating in the recent 2007 HIV Diagnostics Conference; and
helping to develop the best combination of infection status tests for use in laboratories and at the point of care, while providing information to promote and strengthen the process of establishing these new algorithms.
APHL commends our members for their hard work and dedication focused on HIV testing and looks forward to continuing to support this noble cause. APHL would also like to thank our CDC partners for their constant support in helping public health laboratories continue to excel in HIV testing.
