Public Health Laboratory Role in TB Testing
ShareThis

Public health laboratories perform diagnostic testing procedures that play an essential role in the treatment, prevention and control of tuberculosis (TB) by quickly identifying TB, conducting drug susceptibility testing to check for resistant strains and performing universal genotyping that is useful for identifying outbreaks.  However, maintaining this functional infrastructure has been compromised by over a decade of declining funding preventing successful coordination between involved laboratorians, TB controllers and clinicians.

APHL is dedicated to supporting members and partners who work to improve tuberculosis diagnostics within public health laboratories through its funding advocacy activities, organizing of effective collaborations with partners and assisting with the development of best practices for laboratories.
