Focus: Covers any topic that falls within the laboratory licensing statutes
Accomplishments:
• Making recommendations to the secretary regarding regulation of point-of-care laboratories (physician office and clinics), hospital laboratories as well as private commercial laboratories
• Makes recommendations to the secretary as to what tests may “excepted” from the permit requirement and be performed without a permit (these laboratories obtain a permit exception, hence the excepted tests).
• Provided assistance with amending the laboratory laws by advocating for the proposed changes with the State legislature
Members:
• One member from the American Academy of Family Practitioners
• One member from the American Academy of Pediatricians
• One member from the American Society of Internal Medicine
• One member from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists
• One member from the American College of Pathology
• One representative of the Health Industry Manufacturers Association.
• Secretary may appoint any other individuals or representatives at the secretary's discretion
• Chairman of the advisory committee shall be designated by the Secretary every two years
Representatives are appointed biennially from a list of eligibles submitted by the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland
