About Public Health Laboratories

Public health laboratories -- government laboratories with a public health mandate -- provide life-critical services in an era when health threats can -- and do -- emerge overnight. When mysterious new health risks emerge or well-known problems re-emerge, public health laboratories analyze the threat, provide the answers needed to mount an effective public health response and act to protect Americans in concert with state and national health authorities, first responders, policy makers and others.
