13th Annual PulseNet Update Meeting

13th Annual PulseNet Update Meeting and 5th Annual Meeting for OutbreakNet

These two meetings will be held at Snowbird Resort from September 22-25, 2009. They will consist of a keynote session, general sessions, breakout sessions, a poster session, coffee talks, and a social event over the course of 2 ½ days.

Invited Participants:
- Public Health laboratory personnel who are part of the PulseNet Network or are interested in standardized PFGE subtyping of foodborne pathogens
- PulseNet participants from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Food Safety and Inspection Service and Agricultural Research Service
- Laboratory personnel from International Public Health Agencies who are interested in learning more about PulseNet or participating in PulseNet
- Foodborne disease epidemiologists working with data supplied by PulseNet Laboratories are invited to accompany their laboratory counterparts and participate in the concurrent OutbreakNet meeting

Logistics:

Travel Funds:
Laboratory personnel from labs that have ELC or EIP funding and PulseNet Area Labs are expected to use those funds for travel expenses for this meeting. Additional ELC or EIP funds may be used to travel foodborne epidemiologists to this meeting, if deemed appropriate by the state. Very limited funds are available to travel public health laboratory personnel not funded through ELC/EIP.  Anyone seeking funding assistance must complete the travel award application and return it to Kristy Kubota by July 31, 2009.  APHL will facilitate the travel award process in cooperation with CDC staff.  Announcements of travel awards will be made by August 14, 2009 to allow sufficient time to make air & hotel arrangements.
 
Registration:
- Registration Fee:  $125.00
- Payment may be made by credit card or check.
- Registration must be done online unless you are paying by check.
- Registration for this meeting will open in July and will be due no later than September 1, 2009. 

Hotel:
This meeting will take place in the Snowbird Resort. The meeting rooms and sleeping rooms are both in the Cliff Lodge. The conference rate is $102 single/$114 double plus tax per night. This is equal to the federal per diem rate. Reservations must be made no later than August 21, 2009 to receive this rate. See the hotel link below for more

Transportation:
The Snowbird Resort is approximately 45 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport. The hotel does NOT provide shuttle service to the airport. Canyon Transportation (801.255.1841) offers shuttle service between the airport and the Snowbird Resort for $37 one way, $70 round trip. Tickets may be purchased at their desk near baggage claim. Reservations are recommended for the trip to the resort and required for the return trip. Taxis cost approximately $50 each way.

APHL will provide complimentary bus transportation to the airport on Friday after the meeting is completed (the first bus will leave at approximately 11:30am and they will continue to depart as they fill). If you leave before the meeting is over you are responsible for your own transportation to the airport. The hotel recommends leaving 2.5 hours before your flight departs.
