The 20th Newborn Screening and Genetic Testing Symposium -- to be held at the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk, San Antonio, TX, November 3-6, 2008 -- will bring together national and international experts in the field for three days of sessions on recent developments in state and national newborn screening, genetic testing and policy issues of importance to public health laboratories. Half-day workshops on QA/QC and short-term follow-up will precede the symposium .
The program will feature presentations drawn from submitted abstracts, invited oral presentations, poster sessions, exhibits, a “Meet the Manufacturers” session and an optional tour of the Texas state public health laboratory.
Topics will include:
- Updates on state newborn screening programs
- Laboratory technologies, including tandem mass spectrometry, DNA analysis, molecular genetics, immunoassays and others
- Candidate conditions for expanding NBS panels
- Quality improvement in newborn screening and clinical outcomes
- Therapeutics and research
All newborn screening and genetic testing professionals are invited to submit abstracts on any relevant topic with attention to those above. Participation by parents and advocacy organizations is encouraged.
