About

Data science is an interdisciplinary field that uses statistics, computer science and machine learning algorithms to gain insights from structured and unstructured data. The data science field includes three main components: data strategy and engineering; data analyses and models; and data visualization and operationalization.

In today's digital landscape, APHL collects data every day to support member needs in areas such as program management, needs assessments, and monitoring and evaluation. As a result, the volume of data generated continues to grow, and the role of data science has become increasingly essential to APHL's day-to-day operations.

The QSA Data Science program focuses primarily on collecting, cleansing, mapping, modeling, analyzing, and visualizing data. The program is also boosting the culture of data use by designing and producing interactive dashboards and supporting research studies. Through application of different statistical methods and tools, the Data Science program contributes to actionable, data-driven insight to shape APHL's strategic and programmatic decision-making process.

The program also responds to data requests, based on the availability of data and within the conditions of APHL's Data Use Policy.
