"The international projects re-energize me and rekindle my enthusiasm for my career as a scientist in public service. After each experience, I return to my lab able to do my job better."
- David Mills, PhD, former director, Scientific Laboratory Division, New Mexico Department of Health
Involvement with APHL
Those involved with APHL Global Health tell us they appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with innovative leaders and to train motivated laboratorians in new knowledge and skills.
They bring home ideas and practices for working with limited resources as part of a larger global system, which are the skills needed to operate effectively in under-funded public health systems.
But the rewards of working with APHL Global Health go beyond the practical. Individuals can see the effects of their work first-hand. They connect with the ultimate mission of public health labs — helping to save lives.
Opportunities with APHL Global Health
We occasionally have the opportunity for consultancy projects, with potential opportunities to travel usually ranging from 1-2 weeks in length. Our areas of greatest need include strategic and operational planning, technical training, mentoring, assessment, requirements determination, technology transfer and quality systems documentation development. Opportunities for consultancy may include remote support or in-country activities depending on country need.
With the support of your US public health laboratory director, you may register your interest in a twinning opportunity, should one arise. Laboratory twinning usually involves a long-term linkage between a US public health laboratory and a partner laboratory in a low-middle income country. Activities may involve ongoing exchange of expertise/best practices, sharing resources, email communication, web-based meetings and exchange visits between the laboratories.

If either of these sound like an experience that would enrich your life and career, APHL Global Health would like to hear from you. Please keep in mind, while we would like to involve as many of those interested as possible, opportunities are limited and arise based on country needs and funding availability. Please express your interest using the form below. The information that you provide will be kept in a database that our staff will pull from as needs arise. Once a potential match is identified, an APHL staff member will reach out to discuss the opportunity further.Register Your Interest
