Public health laboratories across the country are experiencing an exodus of laboratory staff. Many of the leading causes of workforce retention challenges—especially post pandemic—are related to work culture, workplace silos, conflicts, and prioritizing results and deliverables over relationships. Improved communication can help resolve a great number of these issues.
Cohort 17 of the
APHL Emerging Leader Program built a toolkit to empower their public health laboratory colleagues to be better leaders by improving communication skills. The toolkit has three sections: Relationship Building, Empowering Colleagues and Conflict Resolution.
