The Breaking Point for Antimicrobial Resistance: Outdated AST Breakpoints137938This program will review and describe the antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) breakpoint revisions in the current CLSI M100 document. The speakers will address the importance of implementing updated breakpoints in laboratories and discuss approaches for communicating these updates to laboratory staff and other stakeholders including physicians, pharmacists and infection preventionists. Additionally, the speakers will describe strategies to assist laboratories prioritize and transition to the current clinical AST breakpoints.12/21/2020 5:45:50 PMSTS_ListItem_Eventshttps://www.aphl.org/Lists/Calendar/AllItems.aspx0https://www.aphl.org12/21/2020 5:45:50 PMFalse3535~sitecollection/_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/UpcomingItem_TrainingSearch.js
New Disorders Workgroup Winter Webinar Series Part One: Newborn Screening Considerations for Additional Lysosomal Disorders and GAMT828999The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) Newborn Screening Technical assistance and Evaluation Program (NewSTEPs) is pleased to announce the first webinar in the New Disorders Workgroup Winter Webinar Series on Thursday, January 21 at 200 pm ET. This three-part webinar series will provide updates from programs screening for disorders not currently on the RUSP, both as pilot programs and as components of universal screening. This series will end with a discussion of future disorders that have been nominated for review by the Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children (ACHDNC) and/or are in current pilots. This webinar will provide an overview of the lysosomal disorders and other metabolic disorders being screened for outside of the RUSP. Speakers will provide screening considerations and experiences for the lysosomal disorders that were previously nominated but not recommended for addition to the RUSP. These disorders include Fabry, Krabbe, and Niemann-Pick Disease. Speakers will also discuss screening considerations for additional lysosomal disorders and other disorders, including Mucopolysaccharidosis II (MPS II), Gaucher, and Guanidinoacetate Methyltransferase (GAMT). 1/14/2021 11:11:13 PMSTS_ListItem_Eventshttps://www.aphl.org/Lists/Calendar/AllItems.aspx0https://www.aphl.org1/14/2021 11:11:13 PMFalse3535~sitecollection/_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/UpcomingItem_TrainingSearch.js
New Disorders Workgroup Winter Webinar Series Part Two: Considerations for Infectious Disease Screening or Monitoring in the Newborn Screening Program829000The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) Newborn Screening Technical assistance and Evaluation Program (NewSTEPs) is pleased to announce the second webinar in the New Disorders Workgroup Winter Webinar Series on Thursday, February 4 at 200 pm ET. This webinar will provide an overview of infectious diseases being screened for by newborn screening programs. Speakers will focus on the screening considerations for infectious diseases such as Congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). New uses of dried blood spots in COVID-19 efforts will also be presented.1/14/2021 11:13:21 PMSTS_ListItem_Eventshttps://www.aphl.org/Lists/Calendar/AllItems.aspx0https://www.aphl.org1/14/2021 11:13:21 PMFalse3535~sitecollection/_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/UpcomingItem_TrainingSearch.js
The Long and Short of Long-Read Sequencing18528Next Generation Sequencing has been implemented and utilized for a variety of public health applications. Although most laboratories initially deployed short-read sequencing technology due to its broad usages across different pathogens, there were many challenges. Long read sequencing has a number of uses both as a stand-alone technology and as a complement to short-read sequencing. This webinar will provide an overview of the background of long-read sequencing and an in-depth look into its applications, specifically in public health laboratories. The audience will hear from Dr. Kelly Oakeson who will also explore the challenges and the current landscape of long-read sequencing, including how next generation sequencing has been utilized during the COVID-19 pandemic.1/5/2021 8:55:10 PMSTS_ListItem_Eventshttps://www.aphl.org/Lists/Calendar/AllItems.aspx0https://www.aphl.org1/5/2021 8:55:10 PMFalse3535~sitecollection/_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/UpcomingItem_TrainingSearch.js
New Disorders Workgroup Winter Webinar Series Part Three: On the Horizon: A Review of Up and Coming Disorders and the Future of the RUSP829001The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) Newborn Screening Technical assistance and Evaluation Program (NewSTEPs) is pleased to announce the final webinar in the New Disorders Workgroup Winter Webinar Series on Thursday, February 18 at 200 pm ET. This webinar will highlight disorders that are on the horizon for possible RUSP nomination and present both research and advocacy efforts in expanding newborn screening for additional disorders. This webinar will help programs prepare for potential upcoming disease additions. 1/14/2021 11:16:09 PMSTS_ListItem_Eventshttps://www.aphl.org/Lists/Calendar/AllItems.aspx0https://www.aphl.org1/14/2021 11:16:09 PMFalse3535~sitecollection/_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/UpcomingItem_TrainingSearch.js
Superbugs and Changing Drugs: Antimicrobial Resistance Mechanisms Webinar829240Antimicrobial resistant (AR) organisms are a global public health threat. In order to best characterize the infectious agent, determine effective treatment and develop new agents, it is critical to understand and survey the mechanisms by which these organisms gain resistance. During this webinar Lars Westblade will discuss major types of AR pathogens and their resistance mechanisms, laboratory detection of these pathogens and the use of antimicrobial susceptibility testing breakpoints for detecting resistance. Through a series of case studies, the audience will walk through the processes for AR detection, characterization and surveillance.1/15/2021 2:57:55 PMSTS_ListItem_Eventshttps://www.aphl.org/Lists/Calendar/AllItems.aspx0https://www.aphl.org1/15/2021 2:57:55 PMFalse3535~sitecollection/_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/UpcomingItem_TrainingSearch.js
